I’m not by nature someone who would restrict, constrain my love, to love only one other person.
And for society, that would mean my love isn’t “true” love. The test of “true” love, says society, is that I would love only one.
My love refuses to be so bound.
For many, love is followed by a “therefore”. “I love you” is a momentous event. I love you, therefore I wish to be with you, and not anyone else. Therefore I wish to have sex with you, and not anyone else. Therefore I wish to be married, to have children, to provide for you, and not anyone else.
I’ve no wish to be the scoundrel who promises love to obtain sex.
Yet if love is unconstrained, unbound, there doesn’t need to be a “therefore”. Perhaps I desire sex, yet I have a hundred thousand desires, more than I could fulfill in a lifetime.
Perhaps there can be only love.
Like a beautiful sunset, delighted in, appreciated, loved, without needing to be possessed.
